How to play the Countdown numbers game

  1. You get six numbers: some small (1–10) and some large (25, 50, 75, 100).
  2. A random target between 101 and 999 appears.
  3. Tap a number, an operation, then another number to combine them. Keep going until one of your numbers equals the target.
  4. You don't need to use every number, but each number can be used only once.

Countdown numbers rules

  • Only + − × ÷ are allowed.
  • Every result must be a positive whole number: no fractions, no negatives.
  • On the TV show you have 30 seconds. Here you can take your time, or race your best time.

Tips for the numbers round

  • Get close with the big numbers first, then adjust with the small ones. For 952, 100 × 9 = 900 gets you most of the way.
  • Make useful multipliers: combining two small numbers (like 3 + 4 = 7) gives you a new multiplier.
  • Work backwards: is the target near a multiple of 25, 50 or 75?
