How to play cross math
- Each row reads left to right as an equation, ending in "=" and its answer. Each column reads top to bottom the same way.
- Some squares are empty. The numbers that go in them are in the tray underneath.
- Tap a number in the tray, then tap an empty square to place it. Tap a placed number to send it back.
- Answers turn green when their equation is right and red when it's wrong. Make them all green to win.
Important: work left to right
These puzzles don't use order of operations. Work each line in order: 6 − 2 × 3 means (6 − 2) × 3 = 12.
Cross math tips
- Start with a line that has only one empty square. You can work out that number directly.
- Use multiplication and division clues: if a row ends in a large number, a big multiplication is probably involved.
- Check both directions: every square is part of a row and a column, so a number has to work in both.
Frequently asked questions
What is a cross math puzzle?
A cross math puzzle is like a crossword made of equations. Every row and every column is a math sentence, and you fill in the missing numbers so all of them are true.
Do I use order of operations (BODMAS/PEMDAS)?
No. In our cross math puzzles you work strictly left to right across rows and top to bottom down columns. For example 2 + 3 × 4 is worked as (2 + 3) × 4 = 20.
Can a number be used twice?
Each puzzle uses the numbers 1 to 9 at most once, and the tray holds exactly the numbers you need to place.
Is there a daily cross math puzzle?
Yes. There is a new daily cross math puzzle every day, the same for everyone.
Is cross math good for kids?
Yes. Easy puzzles are a 2×2 grid with adding and subtracting, which is great for ages 7 and up. Hard puzzles add multiplication and division.
